Volunteer / Community Seva Activities

Throughout the year there are many opportunities to serve here at the Center or join in one of our community Seva projects.

Purpose & Mission

It takes a village... we believe in unity. It is our intention to not only serve our own spiritual community, but to be a light in our local community, as well as a light in the global community. Seva, a Sanskrit word for selfless service, is a transformational spiritual practice and one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to a world that works for everyone.

About Us

Shown below are some of the community Seva projects we've participated in. Please contact the office (541) 747-3887 if you have any questions or would like to get more information about upcoming Seva'll be glad you did!

2013 World Day of Service Project

Our focus for World Day of Service was to support Springfield school children who might not otherwise have everything they need to get off to a good start in school this year. We had a school supplies collection barrel and contributed our September community gift to the shoe fund. We also had two SEVA teams volunteering  on September 14 at Belly Full, a food pantry for families of school children experiencing hunger issues.

August SEVA Project at PRIDE Day

In August, Cascade Center for Spiritual Living not only had a volunteer team at PRIDE Day, but Rev. Stana was invited to share in the interfaith blessing of the event. We received a copy of the photo our local paper used on the front page of the City Region section. From left, a monk, a priestess and four lady ministers-- -go figure!

May SEVA Project: Mothers' Day

We celebrated a group of Moms in the memory care unit at Bayberry Commons for our May SEVA Project. It was suggested that they really like having company at meals, singing and sharing poetry.  Our SEVA team arrived for lunch with poems for each woman on beautiful handcrafted cards with original photography, as well as our own musician for singing after lunch. What a rich day of celebration we shared!

April SEVA Project

Our April SEVA project with the Interfaith Emergency Shelter, included preparing & serving dinner, staying overnight and serving breakfast the next morning to the families in the overnight shelter program. We sat down for dinner with the families and enjoyed the opportunity for connection and conversation.
